Jersey Boys to End Their Broadway Run

Publish date: 2024-06-20

As if the closing of Les Miserables and Fun Home weren’t enough, the hit-musical Jersey Boys announced a closing date for January 2017. Good luck, Broadway fans.

January 15 will complete the record-breaking 11 year run after 4,642 shows at the August Wilson theater. Ticketmaster is cutting off ticket purchases for dates after the closing run. They will also give refunds to any customers who have already purchased tickets.

Jersey Boys entered the Broadway stage in 2005 and has now become one of the five current Broadway shows to be running for longer than 10 years. It’s also smashed a record of the 12th longest running Broadway show. Along with those awards, it has set the box-office record 30 times and has grossed over $2 billion worldwide. The musical has also won a Tony for Best Musical and a Grammy for Best Cast Album.

In 2011, Michael David, one of the producers, said the show was infectious. It attracted an array of audiences from families to rockstars. And surprisingly: men, a hard audience to tap into with theater.

“I can’t think of a show that has attracted and surprised men like this does — men who wouldn’t be caught dead in a Broadway show and they return. That’s a lot of our business: people who bring back someone else to see it again,” he said.

For the final shebang of this iconic show, Dancing With the Stars champ Mark Ballas will complete the role of Frankie Valli. Ballas will make his young Broadway debut on October 18, but in the meantime Mauricio Pérez will carry on as the lead and become a part-time lead when Ballas takes over. The rest of the final cast includes Richard H. Blake, Matt Bogart, Scaglione Jr., and Quinn VanAntwerp.

As fellow theater nerds, we highly suggest going to see this amazing show before it closes. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.com or at jerseyboysinfo.com!
